Otto By Otto

A daughters race to uncover her fathers memories before they disappear leads to a nostalgic journey through the most vibrant period of Australian theatre, film and art. This film explores time, place, memory and the Australian cultural identity.

Otto by Otto is an intimate family portrait of Barry Otto, Australian theatre and film icon, seen through the lens of his writer/director daughter, Gracie. The film sets out to revisit scenes from his life, the highs and lows and contradictions of a 50 - year career working with a roll call of Australian celebrities, his increasing eccentricity, dwindling work opportunities and sadness as the frailty of his body continues to let him down. Running parallel to these father/daughter adventures is the story of his determination to perform the theatre show ‘A Stretch of the Imagination', a one - man theatre classic of comedy and pathos, about an old man facing death.
